½ cup mineral or filtered water.

Heat the water till it boils. Keep it like that then add herbs to the water. Cover and allow to precipitate for 30 minutes. Gently heat the glycerin using a double boiler. Slowly add the herbal boiled liquid to the glycerin and to the arrowroot mixture. Stir until the mixture begins to gel. Later take it out in the clean jars and cover it. 

  • Rose and Thyme bath scrub  

The blend of ground oats and orange peel help to exfoliate the skin, which advances increased cell turnover.

Recipe Steps

Take 3 cups of whole oats

Take 1 cup dried rose petals.

Take 1 cup dried thyme.

Take ½ cup dried orange peel.

The process:

Grind each ingredient in a coffee or spice grinder into a fine powder. Grind it batch-wise. Later combine the powders in a bowl and stir to blend them well. Store the finished powder in an airtight jar. For use, mix 2 tablespoons of powder with a small amount of water to make a paste well.

  • Apricot, Orange, and Basil Bath Oil –

Recipe Steps:

Take ½ cup apricot kernel oil.

¾ cup benzoin tincture

Blend all ingredients in a clean glass jar having a tight lid. To use, add 1-2 tablespoons to running bath water.

  • Lemon verbena bubble bath gel –

Take 1 cup boiling water

Take 2 tablespoons dried lemon verbena leaves

Take 1 tablespoon dried sweet woodruff

Take 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin

Take 2 teaspoons witch hazel

Add 8 drops lemon verbena essential oil

Take 1 teaspoon powdered unflavored gelatin

The process:

Infuse the lemon verbena, sweet woodruff, peppermint and comfrey in the boiled water for 20 minutes. Later strain and discard the herbs. Blend the castile soap, glycerine, witch hazel and essential oil in a small bowl. Stir into the reserved herbal infusion. Then add gelatin and stir again until it dissolves. When cooled, pour the gel into a clean jar or squeeze bottle. For use, drop 1-2 tablespoons into running bath water. If your home gets hard water, then use distilled water. Distilled water for this formula to keep unnecessary minerals out of the mix.

3. Recipes for bath and balm

  • Spiced stimulating oil –

This oil is fiery, erotic and refreshing. It’s likewise brilliant for pain-filled, firm joints and sore muscles. Be mindful so as not to contact your eyes or lips with this oil on your hands. Stir it every 30 minutes. Strain the oil through a paper filter and discard spices. Stir in vitamin E and cinnamon essential oil. On cooling transfer to a clean container. Cap it well and label it.

  • Sandalwood and Rose Skin salve

Goes on like a moisturizing ointment; lingers like a romantic perfume…It is a skin salve that replenishes with a hint of romance. 

Recipe Step:

Take 4 ounces of shea butter.

Take 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil.

Take 2 tablespoons of grated beeswax.

Add 20 drops of sandalwood essential oil.

Add 15 drops of rose geranium essential oil.

Take 1 capsule of vitamin E oil.

The process:

Use a double boiler, melt the shea butter and beeswax together. Stir to blend.

Also, add the essential oils and contents of the vitamin E capsule. Stir again.

Then allow the mixture to cool down and pour into a small jar. 

Then tightly cover the lid.

4. Recipes for aromatic adventure 

  • Lavender ~ Vanilla perfume –

Recipe Steps:

Take ½ cup vodka.

Take 2 tablespoons vegetable glycerin

Take 1 cup dried lavender flowers.

Use 2 whole vanilla beans.

Add 15 drops of lavender essential oil.

Add 10 drops of vanilla extract.

The process:

Slice the vanilla beans with a sharp knife. Place the beans and lavender flowers in a larger jar. Pour vodka into the jar. Tightly close and secure the lid. Let the mixture infuse for more than 6 days. Later strain the vanilla beans and lavender flowers. Then add glycerin, lavender essential oil and vanilla extract to the stored liquid. And stir it well. Then replace the lid and allow the perfume to age for four to six weeks. Again strain the perfume once and then transfer to spray bottles.

What’s common in spices and herbs?

Mostly they are used in foods for giving flavours and taste. They are major ingredients in all recipes around the world. Some are used for medicinal purposes while some are used only in food recipes. Spices and herbs are the main factors in human history. During earlier days, the use of spices and herbs are considered luxurious. Also, it is available only for wealthy people. In medieval times, herbs and spices were frequently traded between different nations. Many people don’t know the correct difference between a herb and a spice. Basically, there are very similarities between the two. But then there is a slight difference between the two.

Difference between a herb and a spice

The prominent difference between a herb and a spice is whether it is obtained from a plant or not. Usually, it has been noted that herbs are produced from a leafy part of a plant. And herbs are dry in nature. However, they can be used fresh too. Herbs can be found in many parts of the world. 

But spices are usually found in eastern or tropical countries. Spices usually are produced from seeds, fruits, roots, bark, or some vegetative part. Spices are not compulsorily used as fresh as herbs.

Also, it has been noted that spices tend to be stronger in flavour than herbs. It is said that herbs are more useful than spices. For example, Herbs are used to augment cosmetics and preserve food. So herbs have some plus points considering their variety of uses.

Many people do not understand or believe the differences between a herb and a spice. They consider that both have similar properties. However, the botanical definition reveals that a herb is a plant that doesn’t produce a woody stem. In the United States, there is a common consideration that a dried herb is a spice. Such creates confusion in the public’s mind. 

As herbs and spices both played an important role throughout human history. We know herbs and spices have so many uses. Also, make the recipe have a very flavorful taste. The Portuguese sailor, Vasco Da Gama, sailed to India in search of spices. And even Christopher Columbus has described the types of spices. Which are available in the “new world” to the investors after he landed. 

Herbs are being used throughout history as the only way of medicines to heal yourself naturally. Herbology has been used for thousands of years in TCM, which is a Traditional Chinese Medicine. Herbology means the study of herbs for medicinal purposes.

There is an ongoing debate between herbs and spices. Some say that there is no difference. While others say that they are completely different from each other. The most learned scholars say that the difference between a herb and a spice is found in whether the herb or spice is obtained on the plant. And also where that specific plant can be found.

So, let’s see what are the 10 best herb recipes

1. Lemon verbena, lemon balm and lavender tea

This is a herbal tea that is very soothing, and refreshing. Its taste is very flavoury and it smells and tastes good. Herbal tea rejuvenates your mind and makes you feel fresh.

This recipe procedure is as follows :

Use:

500ml boiling water.

2 springs of Lemon Verbena

2 springs of Lemon balm.

And take 4 young heads of Lavender flowers

Steps include:

1. Pour the 500ml boiled water over the fresh herbs.

2 Cover the boiling jar and leave it to infuse for 10 minutes.

3. Lastly, strain it and serve.

2. Garden herb spread  

Homemade herbal recipes are always healthy and nourishing. You can make an amazing garden herb spread for bagels or crackers. This spread is creamy and herby. Also, it’s perfect for ferocious morning hunger. This recipe is fast and good when you don’t have time for cooking other recipes. The total grams it makes is 500g.

This recipe procedure is as follows:

Use:

60g raw cashews.

1 garlic clove which is chopped

450g firm tofu that too which is drained.

2tbsp fresh basil which is chopped.

2 tbsp fresh thyme

Use:

1 tbsp fresh tarragon

2 tbsp fresh oregano which is chopped.

Juice of 1 lemon

30g of red Onion that is chopped.

¼ tsp salt.

2 tbsp nutritional yeast.

Take salt and black pepper as per required taste.

Steps include:

Step 1 – Blitz the cashews into coarse crumbs in a blender. Then add the garlic and pulse to integrate with each other. Crumble the tofu in the mixer. You need to blend it until it gets relatively smooth. You should not make a complete puree of onion and herbs. Instead, they should be chopped into small bits.

Step 2 – Later, after some time you can serve it. It’s certainly good if served immediately but it’s better to keep it chilling for some time. And then serve it, after 30 minutes at least.

3. Anchovy and sage fritters

The procedure of this recipe is as follows :

Anchovy and sage fritters are small fritters. It makes a great snack bar along with a cold drink. But as an alternative, fritters can be used in all kinds of vegetables. Veggies like Courgette and aubergines (or fish) as a fritto misto. Then you can scatter the whole capers, deep-fried can be scattered over the final dish.

The total weight it makes is 20g.

Use:

150g plain flour, sifted

2 tbsp olive oil

Use 2 egg whites

Use:

1 tbsp finely grated parmesan

10 anchovy fillets (in olive oil)

40 sage leaves

Sunflower oil, for deep frying

Add salt and black pepper

Steps include:

Step 1 – Add the oil to the plain flour in a large bowl, whisking to combine. Slowly add lukewarm water, whisking, until the batter base is the consistency of double cream. Season with salt and pepper, then set to one side for at least 15 minutes.

Step 2 –  In another bowl, whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt until just stiff. Fold into the rested batter along with the parmesan.

Step 3 – Cut each anchovy fillet in half. Sandwich between 2 sage leaves to make 20 parcels.

Step 4 – Add the oil to a saucepan until it is at least 3cm deep. Heat the oil to around 180C/350F. Have some kitchen roll ready in a tray. Dip the anchovy sage parcels in the batter and fry for a few minutes on each side until golden. This may have to be done in batches, depending on the size of the pan used. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on the kitchen roll. Serve with a wedge of lemon.

7. Rosemary

Characteristics: Rosemary has a strong and even pungent fragrance. It is native to the Mediterranean region. Vegetarians can enjoy the herb in potatoes. For an unusual sweet-savoury treat, consider rosemary shortbread cookies.

8. Chives

Characteristics: Chives are deep green hollow stems. They are oniony in taste. It helps to cut down the heaviness of rich foods. Chopped chives work as garnish.
